April Break Camp information

April 22 – 25, 2024 – Spring camp theme is Springtime cycles & change. Join us for a full day (9am – 3pm) fun outdoor program at Hilltop Montessori School. Please register by April 15, 2024.

 

Summer Camp Information

Kids Club camp is a full day camp (9am – 3pm) at Hilltop Montessori School for children in grades rising 1-6 (must have completed Kindergarten in 2023-2024 school year). Each week will be a different theme. There is a maximum of 30 participants per week.

  • 6/24-6/28 Mountains, Rivers, & Forest – Join us as we explore Vermont ecology with eyes open to the beauty around us.
  • 7/1-7/5 Loving Local Wildlife – Learn to appreciate the wonderful ecosystem and how every animal has an important role, even if we don’t see it happen.
  • 7/8-7/12 Growth & Flow (plants) – From pretty blooms and vibrant moss, to tall trees and sprouting seedlings, stop and spend time with the unique foliage of summer.
  • 7/22-7/26 Awesome Adaptations Get ready to fly, climb, hide, seek, and frolic your way through nature like the incredible wildlife of the area living their best lives.
  • 7/29-8/2 At the Water’s Edge (wetlands) – There’s a whole new world colliding with another where the water meets the shore and all sorts of interesting natural wonders.

April Break Program information

  • 22 April – Tournament Day: Compete for supremacy in the club’s games of skill! Vie to become Intergalactic Champion of billiards, ping pong, HORSE and more!
  • 23 April – Tech Tuesday: Play vintage video games and learn computer repair as we expand our Tech Tuesday program into an all-day celebration!
  • 24 April – Movie Day: Come watch a double feature on our big screen! Popcorn provided!
  • 25 April – Action Day: Skate park, basketball court, and bouldering wall open all day long!
  • 26 April – Friday Afternoon Magic: Play the classic trading card game at the club! Use one of the club decks, bring your own, or participate in a limited format for experienced players.

Summer Camps/Workshops Information

Zine making
Jul 1, 2, 3 & 5 
(2-5pm)

Do you have great ideas to share with the world?  How about art?  Poetry?  Come learn about making zines with social practice artist, Amber Paris.  We will explore different types of zine creation, work on our own zines and create some ‘little free zine machine’ libraries to place at both the Boys and Girls Club and the Brooks Memorial Library so people can continue to exchange zines beyond this camp!  Our week together will culminate with an Artful Streets table at the July 5th Gallery Walk where we can share our zines with the community and show how to make them.  Free vouchers for photocopying zines will be provided by the Brooks Memorial Library.
This program has 12 available slots for young people and the registration cost is $175.

Build your Own Skateboard
July 15 – 19 & July 29 – August 02
(10am -1pm)

Partnering with both HatchSpace woodworking makerspace and First Proof Press, students are guided through the process of using tools to design and build their own custom-painted skateboards and then to add their own graphically-designed prints onto those skateboards. This program has 8 available slots for young people and the registration cost is $175 for the week. This week-long camp will be offered twice in summer 2024.

Sk8 camp 
July 15 – 19 & July 29 – August 02
(2-5pm)

Whether you’ve never been on a skateboard before or are a novice skater and want to improve your skills, this program is for you! Members will learn to push, ride, fall, turn, and how to control and comfortably ride a skateboard. The program will run at the Club and out in different parks. This program has 8 available slots for young people and the registration cost is $175 for the week. This week-long camp will be offered twice in summer 2024. 

Sk8 & Motion Photography
July 15 – 19
(2-5pm)

Partnering with Insight Photography, students will follow skateboarding culture and skills, learning how to photograph, print, video capture and edit images of skateboarders in motion. Joining the Summer Skate Camp in the afternoon for one week, all the students will travel together to the various locations working together to make skateboarding a work of art.

Safe Sitters Certification
July 18 – 19
(2:30-5pm)

In partnership with our instructor from YMCA Keene, we offer this popular two-day course to help students receive training and certification to become certified sitters. This program has 8 available slots for young people and the registration cost is $60 for the two days.

Wilderness, HeartSaver CPR and First Aid Course
July 22 – 26 (10am – 3pm)

In partnership with the Vermont EMS Academy, students will earn a two-year certification. Meeting five hours per day for one week, students will have further training in such wilderness skills as improvising on splints and dealing with heat/cold related emergencies. Moreover, they will have a session on basic knots with VEMSA’s Tech Team. Finally, students will receive an introduction to VEMSA’s Wilderness First Aid course. This program has 8 available slots for young people and the registration cost is $200 for the week.

Remote Car Creation
August 5 – 9 (2-5pm)

DIY: How to Put Together a Rock Crawler Remote Control Car from Scratch  – Led by our Technology Specialist John Short, students will receive a kit worth $150 and spend the week designing, constructing, painting, programming and operating their very own remote control cars, which they will be able to take home with them when they are finished. This program has 8 available slots for young people and the registration cost is $175 for the week, $150 of which will go toward the car itself.
